Macao Tours

The tiny island of Macao was settled by the Portuguese in the mid 16th century, and was a  base for that country's trade with India, China and Japan at the time. For over 400 years the Portuguese lived here and constructed fine churches and civic buildings, and there is much more of historical interest to see in Macau than there is in Hong Kong - the historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ruins of St Paul's  St Paul's was built in 1602 and burned down in 1853, but its facade and stairway are still to be seen and have become the symbol of Macau. The right arm bone of St Francis Xavier is housed in the museum here.

St Dominic's Church boasts an impressive tiered altar and dates from the 17th century

A-Ma Temple is dedicated to the goddess of sailors, and her temple is one of the island's favourites, especially during April and the festival of A-Ma

Kun Iam Temple is dedicated to the goddess of mercy and is 400 years old

Guia Fortress stands at the island's highest point and is topped by a lighthouse, the oldest in China, and a chapel

Monte Fort  was the oldest on the island - nowadays it houses the Museum, and there are great views.
